Do Absolutely Nothing

This might be the hardest one on the list, and I am fairly sure it is the one most people will skip. So many of us feel we have to earn our rest. We tell ourselves we can relax once everything is done, and of course everything is never quite done, and it never will be, because that is the nature of everything.

It is a rigged deal, when you look at it plainly. You have set a condition that can never be met and then made your rest depend on meeting it. Nobody would accept that arrangement from an employer. Most of us impose it on ourselves without a second thought.

So here is your permission slip, for whatever it is worth coming from a stranger on the internet. You are allowed to do absolutely nothing today, just because. Not as a reward. Not once the jobs are finished. Not because you have had a hard week and can therefore justify it. Simply because you are a person, and people need to rest, and that is the beginning and end of the reasoning.

Put your feet up. Let your mind wander wherever it fancies going. Have a doze if you fancy one. The world will keep turning without you for an hour, I promise. It has been managing it quite well for a while now.

Looking after yourself sometimes means doing nothing at all, and that is perfectly alright.
